I loved the discussion about incorporating technology into the classroom. I think that it was a great point that if we thoroughly educate students in the content, but omit technology from our lessons, we are preparing students for the 18th century. To be honest, I am not a tech person, I do not love messing around with technology- I feel that it drains my energy- but I cannot let my personal preferences seep into the classroom. I know that would be a disservice to my students. As an ELL teacher, I have encountered content area teachers who do not want to incorporate sheltered ELL lessons into their planning. There are science teachers who are not eager to incorporate reading and writing into their class. But, we all have to incorporate cross-disciplinary aspects into our classes to serve our students.
Last night's session reminded me to incorporate a bit more technology into my class. The model of the PED encouraged me to use video clips to introduce topics into class. Today, I looked for some videos to show to a class that will be starting to debate- I did not find anything good. I would love some suggestions for debate related videos to excite kids. I also looked for some relating to etymology- also a no go. I will keep looking.
The next thing that I am going to incorporate as a result of last night's session on technology, is the use of cell phones to text google for answers. I think this should go over well. I will keep you posted.
